Coastal Georgia for Democracy Announces No Kings 2.0 Savannah
Community Responds to Dismantling of Rights with Peaceful Protest
SAVANNAH, GA – October 9, 2025 – In partnership with the ACLU of Georgia and in collaboration with Chatham County Young Democrats, Coastal Georgia for Democracy is hosting Savannah’s No Kings Day on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Emmet Park on E. Bay Street.
No Kings is a peaceful national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration and elected officials including Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter for refusing to push back against rising threats to civil liberties.
“The ACLU of Georgia is proud to co-host and collaborate on No Kings protests across the state, this time in Savannah as well as Atlanta, joining our colleagues who are demonstrating across the nation. The ACLU continues to build power in opposition to the unconstitutional actions of the Trump administration,” said Sarah Hunt-Blackwell, First Amendment Policy Counsel at the ACLU of Georgia. “Politicians at every level of government continue to try and crush dissent, but on Oct. 18, Georgians across the state will mobilize with one goal in mind - Resistance.”
In June, millions of Americans peacefully took to the streets and declared with one voice: No Kings. Since then, the administration has doubled down on its authoritarian actions and a second global No Kings mass protest is happening. As of early October 2025, over 2,200 protests are planned across all 50 U.S. states and internationally.
Trump’s MAGA Agenda Continues to Fail Coastal Georgians
An ICE raid at a Hyundai electric vehicle battery plant near Savannah resulted in the detention of approximately 475 people on September 4, 2025, most of whom were here lawfully. The nation’s largest ICE detention center is being built in South Georgia while unexplained deaths in detention centers go unexplained. Additionally, Trump’s economic policies wrought from tariffs and the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” are driving price hikes for food, electricity, healthcare, and retail products for all Georgians, while threatening jobs in clean energy and manufacturing like the Hyundai plant.
“On No Kings in June of this year, more than 3,000 coastal Georgians marched peacefully to reject Trump’s strongman politics and corruption,” said Coastal Georgia for Democracy Co-Chair and Outreach Director, Suzanne Potts. “Unfortunately, the abuses of power have deepened and since that time American cities have been invaded with federal forces, more people have been unlawfully disappeared by masked ICE agents with no due process, voting rights are threatened, and free speech is under assault. On October 18, Savannah will join all of the mass mobilizations around the world to show a visible, nonviolent, national rejection of this constitutional crisis.”
No Kings Savannah will take place at Emmet Park, 4089 E. Bay Street, Savannah, GA starting at 1:00 p.m. A powerful lineup of community leaders and elected officials will address the crowd, with a peaceful march to Savannah City Hall concluding the day’s events.
Non-Violence Policy
A core principle behind all of our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
